From: Laya B Jackson Date: Wed, 9 Aug 2006 15:19:09 +0200 Subject: What you can do Dear friends and family, I've gotten a number of notes from people asking if they can do anything for us. Here's what I've come up with: Things are hard in Tzfat for the people who are remaining. You might remember me talking about a place that Avital and I have done volunteer work--Lev U'neshama (Heart and Soul). The couple who has tirelessly worked to run it, buy and distribute food, and other services have stayed in Tzfat to keep the community alive. Many people have left seeking refuge in communities where bombs are not falling. But there are people who are still in Tzfat for various reasons and many of them are in financial are in trouble. They can't go to work now so they have no money. So how do they buy food without an income? Or elderly who had neighbors who would shop for them but their neighbors are gone. Who will help them? Lev U'neshama (that means Moshe and Yaffa and any helpers they might have). If you want to know that 100% of any money you send to Israel would be used to benefit people directly, you can send it to the Smolensky's. If you use paypal, you won't get an official receipt (but you can get a thank you note if you want). If you want a receipt, use the channels they give you below. If you want to know more you can read the appeal that they wrote below. Please know that their letter below was written July 18. Since then, they have begun delivering food supplies directly to bomb shelters where people have been staying. In addition to feeding people, they are buying from the local stores who are also struggling. I have sent a donation to Lev U'neshama through my paypal account. It is going into the personal account of Moshe and Yaffa Smolensky. I know them personally and wanted it to get to them fast. I have seen first hand the selfless way they give to the community with such open hearts. This is one charity that gives directly to the people, and they're in need now. They do not receive funding from large organizations who send money to Israel. No red tape here folks, money into food, pure and simple. Here's how you can send them money with PayPal: MortSmo@aol.com If you don't have paypal, go to their website www.levuneshama.org If you do choose to donate, and I hope you do, please send them a "love note" of encouragement to go with it. They are working non-stop. sending love and gratitude, Laya Lev U'Neshama, (Heart and Soul) has been ministering to the needy families in Tzfat Israel for the past four years. We are an Israeli registered nonprofit organization doing chessed work only with donations from compassionate friends mainly from America and Canada. Please visit our website: www.levuneshama.org for an overview of our work. However, since last Thursday, 17 Tammuz, July 13, when three rockets slammed in Tzfat, life has not been the same. There have been over 40 rockets as of today which have damaged the city. Over 3/4 of the population of Tzfat has fled. Lev U'Neshama is anticipating the return of our "refugees" and their needs. Those who had jobs will not come home to salaries. The banks in Tzfat have been closed as of recently. Ordinary expenses have continued during their absence, here and away. The shaky economy in Tzfat that was slowly making a recovery, has taken another blow. Therefore, in the tradition of reaching out to the needy, ingrained in the heart of every Jew and righteous Gentile, we make this appeal. Our Food Program is being held in abeyance; so many are not in their homes. When they return to empty cupboards and diminished pocketbooks, how will they buy food? Only one major grocery store is open at this time and they do not sell on credit. We must rely on privately owned stores to provide necessities. With donations, LUN will be enabled to provide vouchers to be used at three small stores in Tzfat who provide staples as well as fruits and vegetables. This will give families the chance to restock and the funds will help the small stores to remain open. They sell on credit and their livelihoods are at stake if they overextend themselves. Donations in any amount will help so much. This can easily be done by going to the website: www.levuneshama.org and using the system for making donations. Or, if you don't need a tax receipt, you can send donations directly to me at: Smolensky P O Box 6432 Tzfat 13229 Israel Please make the checks payable to: Lev U'Neshama If you wish to contact me, please use this email address. If you can't make a donation, or if you do, your prayers will help us a lot. Sincerely, Moshe & Yaffa Smolensky Indicate your donation is for Tzfat and send to: To Save A Life 16405 Equestrian Lane Rockville MD 20855 Lamed Vuvnik Louis Berlin 19651 NE 19th Place Miami FL 33179 |
