Morah Yehudis' classes are cancelled due to accident
Kehilath Aish Kodesh 1805 Balsam Avenue Directions and Map Women and Prayer Talmud Class - Mondays at 1:15 Shalom chaveirim ! We have had several requests for a day time Talmud class. Here it is! Mondays at 1:15 we will gather and spend some time learning the Gemarra Hagigah. It is a splendid exploration of the external and internal issues surrounding the mitzvah of Pilgrimage to Jerusalem during the 3 festivals. The form will be open - we might spend some time in chavruta and then some time together. We might spend the whole class on one line, or we might try to 'cover some ground'. Bring a lunch (kosher, please) or snack. Xerox copies will be provided, but if you'd like to buy your own, I can point you in the right direction. Please note that we will only meet 3 weeks per month due to board meeting. We will meet through the summer. Please RSVP if you plan on attending. Learning for Steve Shalom chaveirim ! It has now been more than 30 days since Steve Philips passed away. The year after the death, as well as the yartzeit every year thereafter, is a fortuitous time to benefit the soul of the deceased. As we have discussed briefly, one prevalent custom is to learn Mishnah on behalf of the deceased. We would like to invite all members of the extended Aish community, as well as all the communities Steve was involved in, to learn one or two tractates of Mishnayot in the next 11 or so months. A list will be attached, and you can sign up for which tractates you'd like. There is a short description of each. They are all interesting. This will be first come, first served. When you sign up, we will get you a book with Hebrew and English and commentary in Hebrew and English. Please finish in a somewhat timely manner, as others may need the volume you have for the other tractates contained therein. We are also asking for a $10 donation from every participant for the cost of the books, which will then be donated to Aish Kodesh. Apr 17, 2007 - An invitation from Rabbi Gavriel Shalom everyone. Morah Yehudis, Caren Philips (Education Chair on the board) and I are committed to offering classes that give every member an opportunity to learn about something they find interesting every week. While our Monday night schedule will remain intact (as both classes are well-attended) with Tanya, Ma'ariv, and Rav Kook, we are both able to offer an additional class during the week. We thought it best to offer Unit-classes (like a 6-week class on the laws of Shabbat or a 12-week overview of women in the Tanach, etc) rather than offering only one class for the whole year, as attendance and interest tend to fade after a while. We want to know what you are interested in learning, and when. Here are some ideas: • The Siddur • Seasonal Liturgy • Women of the Tanach • The Prophets • Mishnah • Gemarra • Midrash • Laws of _________ • Parsha • Pirkei Avot • Vegetarianism • Mussar • 'The Classics' Please respond with what you are interested in, and when you could attend. The more specific you are the better. Until we design our new schedule in the coming weeks, I will continue to offer my Tuesday night liturgy class, if anyone is interested. Torah rocks!
